The Day I Became A Thieu Nhi
The day I became a Thieu Nhi,
was the day I realized
I had lost 3 hours of sleep,
on an early Sunday morning.
The day I became a Thieu Nhi,
was the day I realized
my newly bought outfits
and matching accessories
would have to remain hidden in closets,
and my vanity be sacrificed–
as I put on my white collared-
yellow necktie Thieu Nhi uniform.
The day I became a Thieu Nhi,
was the day where I met new friends
and finally felt “belonged” to something,
something worthwhile.
The day I became a Thieu Nhi,
was the day I finally came out of my shell
and became a leader,
to the younger kids–who looked up to me
to my group mates–who considered me as a friend
and to myself,
hollering:
“Thieu Nhi nhin truoc thang!…Thoi!….Thieu Nhi!!”
The day I became a Thieu Nhi,
was my first camping experience ever!
My first experience in an outhouse with no toilet paper.
My first experience swallowing a spoonful of “nuoc mam.”
My first experience singing around a live bonfire,
and the chance to meet so many other,
wonderful, sweet, funny, and “naughty” Thieu Nhi members like
myself.
oh, the memories…
and haha, the laughs…
The day I became a Thieu Nhi,
was the day I finally picked a side
the side of God.
Just by wearing the Thieu Nhi uniform
Just by my participation and faith in our Doan`
and in our church,
I could proudly proclaim myself
as one of His apostles,
spreading His words.
“Cung di hoi cac Thieu Nhi…
cung di voi Chua Kito…
cuoc song, Thanh The tran hoa…
la ly tuong, cua nguoi, Thieu Nhi hom nay…”
